I shared a tutorial on how to do a Full Bicep Adjustment on a short sleeve a few weeks ago, and this week I thought I’d share how to do the same on long sleeve. It is very similar and requires one more step, and only if it is needed.

Before you begin, figure out how much you need to add to the sleeve. It is not a science and the final number is based on how tight or loose your sleeve needs or you like it to be.

1. Draw two lines. One vertical line (A) through the center of the sleeve, you can draw it through the sleeve cap notch. And one horizontal one (B), right around bicep area, or area of your arm that needs more room. I usually eyeball this.
2. Cut through the lines. Cut through the vertical line (A), starting at the hem of the sleeve. Do not cut through the sleeve cap. leaving a hinge to move it the sleeve around. Starting from the middle, cut through the horizontal line (B) out towards the side seams. Do not cut through the side seams, leaving the hinges there as well.
3. Place a piece of paper underneath the sleeve. Draw two vertical lines the required distance apart (this is the amount you need to add to the bicep). Line up the bottom corners of the top parts of the sleeve to the lines. Tape the tops of the sleeve in place.
4. Decide if you want to add the width throughout the entire sleeve or if you want to sleeve to taper off to its original width at the bottom.
a. Using the hinges in the side seams, overlap the bottom pieces with the top so that the inside cut edges of the sleeve line up to the two parallel lines you drew and the hem is straight. Tape everything in place and true up the seams.
b. Using the hinges in the side seams, overlap the bottom pieces with the top bringing the inside cut edges of the sleeve to the straight vertical line you drew in the first step (A). This line is not on the paper anymore, but it falls right in the middle of the two vertical lines you drew to help add the required amount of width to the sleeve. Tape everything in place and true up the seams.

That's it, you are done!

I almost forgot to mention that Sew Together for the summer team is back this year with a different challenge - Sew Together for Winter. To enter the challenge you have to make a coat and post on social media. Make sure to tag the organizers - @sewsarahsmith, @crafting_slovak and @sewing_in_spain and add #sewtogetherforwinter.

In honor of winter sewing, I want to share three coat sewing patterns that have caught my eye but I simply don’t have time to make….yet. I think I will have to find the time for at least one of them.

1. #vikisews_faith by @vikisews (chest up to 45.6”/116cm) - I love a long oversized coat! The cut of this coat seems very simple and won’t require much fitting. I want one in teddy fabric, just like the model photo. Has anyone sewn using Viki Sews patterns before? What do you think?

2. #oslocoat by @tessutifabrics (chest up to 47.6”/121cm) - I’ve been eyeing this pattern for a few years now. It also seems very straight forward and easy to make. The hashtag for this coat is full of inspirational photos.

3. #V9367 by Vogue Patterns ( chest up to 48”/122 cm) - this seems to be a nice basic trench coat sewing pattern. I always have room for one on my sewing wish list!

Sadly, all these patterns do not come in plus sizes. What are your favorite coat patterns? If you have plus size recommendations, do share!

I have been working on the pattern for this sweats

I have been working on the pattern for this sweatshirt for a long time now…. One day I will be ready to release it. One day.

This is one of the views - the half zip with standing collar. It feels so 90s! In fact, I got the idea for this pattern from the old sweatshirt Shaun wears around the house. It belonged to his late uncle and Shaun wears it all the time.

I also forgot to show the lining details from my Rya shirt. I didn’t have enough lining fabric so I used scraps of flannel I had laying around. I love the way it looks with camel coating!

I never really got into the wide pants trend. I love them, I love the look but something about them on my body throws me off. I do have a few pairs I like and wear, but not too much. But lately, I have been really into flared pants! Yet, I am being picky again - they can’t be too flared and they have to be high waisted.

These Ash jeans, flared version, is actually my second pair. I made the first one and I liked them a lot, but they weren’t quite what I had in mind. I went back to the pattern and made a few modifications - I added 1.25” (3.2cm) to the rise so that they sit at my natural waist, added a bit to the knee and removed .75” (1.9cm) from the flare.

I thought with widening the knee the flare would be less prominent, but it is still there! I like how these jeans turned out. I am thinking of making another pair with even slightly less flare and more room at the knee. I know, it sounds like I am making straight jeans, but trust me, I am like the Princess and the pea and I am looking for _just the right_ amount of flare.
