The Bessie top provides bust shaping through a dart in the side seam. For the best fit, it is important to make sure the bust dart is pointing toward your bust apex.
This is actually a quite normal adjustment for me. My bust apex tends to be a full 1″ (2.5cm) above the “standard” bust apex point. So I rotate the bust dart in all the patterns that have them.
You will need:
- Front pattern piece
- Ruler
- Pen or pencil
Steps:

Measure the required adjustment distance up or down from the current dart point.
Draw the new dart legs starting at the base of the dart and going toward the new dart point.

Check the length of the dart legs to make sure it is equal.
Lengthen the shorter dart leg to match the length of the longer one.
Adjust the side seam to meet the new base of the dart.
That’s it!

Anya
