It has been just over a year and a half since I first shared a nursing t-shirt hack and wrote instructions on how to it yourself. I remember deciding that I want to put it together into a booklet, similar to pattern instructions one. I imagined if I ever wanted to sell my patterns, what the instruction booklet would look like. I was eager to learn how to put one together. I spent months working on the final product! I stayed up late into the night working on it while baby Zoe slept. I felt like I was playing-pretend with having my own business. Like when I was a little girl and I would try on my mom’s shoes and try to imagine how fabulous it felt to wear them. Well, here I am, almost two years ago still feeling like I am playing-pretend but somehow I seem to have ended up with a pattern business.
In between my freelance job as an illustrator (I am still processing how I ended up here and it deserves a blog post of its own), I have been insanely busy working on two patterns for Anna-Zoe. The first one, a pants pattern, should be coming out soon. And the second one, a t-shirt, is almost ready to go into testing. Who needs another t-shirt pattern, you ask? Back when I created the instructions for the nursing t-shirt hack I imagined how awesome it would be to have a nursing t-shirt pattern that does not need hacking. It may be useful for someone who is a bit more timid when it comes to hacking patterns, especially while transitioning into motherhood and caring for a new baby. So, the idea of a t-shirt pattern that has an option to be a nursing t-shirt was born.
As I was putting the finishing touches on the pattern booklet of the new pattern, I decided to take a look at the very first booklet I created. It was nice to see my old illustrations and compare them to the new ones I’ve created. My skills have come a long way! So it was only natural that I ended up updating the hacking instructions to match the new format and to have good illustrations. The updated nursing t-shirt hack is available right now and will continue to be available even after I release the pattern. This way if you already have a favourite t-shirt pattern, you can hack it yourself and enjoy a nursing t-shirt. Just don’t forget to tag me on social media so that I can see your makes! Or, eventually, you will be able to buy a pattern where all the hard work has been done for you. And if you are on the fence about the rest of the Anna-Zoe patterns and want to see the quality of instructions, download it and see what you think!
xoxo,
Anya
